Let's try to make this as painless as possible.
If you live anywhere in the vicinity of Washington, DC, Annapolis or Baltimore, MD, the artist will come out and meet the person or subject of the portrait. Or, you can come to the studio in Gambrills, MD. All details of the portrait will be discussed (hanging location, size, paper, clothing, props, expressions, etc). Lots of photos will be taken and some sketching from life, if possible. This initial meeting would take up to 2 hours. If you are too far away, just mail or email photos.
Then at least once in the portrait process, you will be given the opportunity to see the sketch, where changes can be made. This can often be done through emailing scans. If you are having a pastel or oil painting done, you will get an additional proof along the way. Your satisfaction is guaranteed, and the artist will not be happy until you are!
